Today is PSAT testing day! Students report to Homeroom for PSAT testing. After testing, students will report to 3rd and then 4th block.
Since we only saw each other during 4th block today, the 4th block students were given a day to work on their Chemical Bonding Project. 1st and 2nd block was given the same opportunity last Friday when we tested on the PACT. Handouts/Notes:

Today we completed a warm-up and took notes on how to write covalent names and formulas. We then practiced by completing the Covalent Naming and Formula Writing worksheet.
Tomorrow is PSAT testing. Students will got to Homeroom for their test. Afterwards they will go to 3rd and 4th block. Handouts/Notes:

***QUIZ 10/20*** ***TEST 10/21*** ***PROJECT DUE 10/25*** Today we continued learning about bonds. Specifically we focused on covalent bond characteristics, types of covalent bonds, and drawing the covalent bond model. We completed a warm-up, notes, and then the Covalent Bond Model worksheet.

***QUIZ 10/20*** ***TEST 10/21*** ***PROJECT DUE 10/25*** Today students took school wide online tests. For the majority of our students, they took the PACT (practice ACT).
Due to testing, students only had 1st and 2nd block today. The 1st and 2nd block students took their quiz today (4th block will take it Monday). After the quiz, students were given roughly twenty minutes to complete the Ionic Bonding Puzzle Piece Assignment. Once the assignment was turned in, students were given the Chemical Bonding Project. The Chemical Bonding Project can be done alone or with a partner and students are able to choose the type of project they would like to do. The rubric was printed on the back of the project sheet so they know exactly how they will be scored and what is expected of them to earn a specific score. The project is due October 25th. ***4th Block QUIZ MONDAY 10/14*** ***QUIZ FRIDAY 10/21*** ***Chemical Bonding Project DUE 10/25*** Since students typically struggle with ionic naming and formula writing, we used today to review what we learned the day before. We went over the entire #17 assignment. Then we worked on continuing to practice by completing the Ionic Puzzle Piece assignment. The Puzzle Piece assignment was done in groups. Students were to color and cut out element puzzle pieces and fit them together to create bonds. Then they were to write the resulting formula on their worksheet. If students did not finish, they are to finish and hand in the assignment the following day.

***QUIZ FRIDAY/MONDAY 10/14 or 10/17*** ***TEST FRIDAY 10/21*** We had an early release day, so all class periods were cut down to fifty-five minutes each.
We quickly completed a warm-up and took notes on day two of 4.2. These notes had students learn how to write ionic formulas and names. Between each topic, we completed some examples and problems from assignment #17. Afterwards, students had the remainder of the period to try it on their own. Handouts/Notes:

***QUIZ FRIDAY/MONDAY 10/14 or 10/17*** ***TEST FRIDAY 10/21*** Today we started focusing specifically on ionic bonding. We completed a warm-up that reviewed the Bonds Chart and then started taking notes on how to draw the ionic bond model. Before practicing on our own, we did a few examples of how to draw an ionic bond model. Then, using Skittles, we acted out how the electrons would actually transfer. Then we drew the corresponding bond model. After we finished practicing together, students were given assignment #16, in which they practiced creating bond models on their own.

***QUIZ FRIDAY/MONDAY 10/14 or 10/17*** ***TEST FRIDAY 10/21*** Today we started Unit 4, so we did an introduction warm-up and started taking notes on the basics of chemical bonding (Note 4.1). While doing the notes, we working on pieces of worksheet #15 and the Bonds Chart. After the notes were finished, students we allowed to work on the two assignments for the remainder of class.
